Nutritech International
A factory extension where a new roof met existing steel cladding. The junction called for a plywood internal gutter, laid in a torch on two layer system and detailed carefully between the new and the old.
Project Overview
Nutritech International
This project had an existing factory which required an extension to the rear of the site. Joining a new roof to the existing steel cladding required an internal gutter which was made from plywood.
Each gutter was laid with a torch on two layer system, and careful attention was taken between new and old materials to ensure a watertight system.
Where New Meets Old
A new roof had to tie into existing steel cladding on a working factory. That junction is exactly where water finds its way in, and the two materials move and age at different rates.
A Plywood Internal Gutter
An internal gutter was formed in plywood to carry the water at the junction, then laid in a torch on two layer system. Every transition between the new and the existing materials was detailed by hand.
System Installed
What Went Into the Gutter
A small area by square metre, and the part of the roof that matters most.
Torch On, Two Layer
Viking General Membrane laid over the plywood gutter in two layers, for the redundancy a gutter needs.
- Plywood gutter formed to carry the junction
- Two layers of torch on membrane
- Laps set well clear of the water line
- Outlets and stop ends detailed by hand
The Transition Detail
The join between the new roof and the existing steel cladding took the most attention on this job.
- Membrane dressed into the existing cladding
- Allowance for differential movement
- Checked for watertightness before sign off
- Factory kept running throughout
